Dr Tladiso Motsema
Dr Tladiso Motsema is an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist practising at Melomed Tokai Hospital.
Dr Motsema has been practising Obstetrics and Gynaecology since 2011. His love for the field began during his internship in 2009 at Queen Nandi Regional hospital (formerly, Lower Umfolozi District War Memorial hospital). Dr Motsema is passionate about Obstetrics and Gynaecology because these fields of medicine are able to integrate both medical and surgical components.
In 2011, he wanted to gain a better understanding of this wonderful and fascinating field of medicine, so he obtained a Diploma in Obstetrics at the College of Medicine of South Africa.
Working with his senior colleagues imparted a lot of surgical and practical skills. This further ignited his passion for Obstetrics and Gynaecology, leading him to become a Registrar at the University of Kwazulu Natal in 2012. In 2016, he completed a fellowship in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
He spent some time working as Medical Officer, and eventually a specialist Ob-Gyn at Queen Nandi Regional Hospital. The hospital offered all levels of healthcare (district, regional and tertiary), and this helped him gain much-needed experience in patient management and surgical skills.
Besides his duties as an Ob-Gyn, Dr Motsema’s other tasks include teaching, examining and acting as a liaison between the hospital and medical school department. He also spent some years at Queen Nandi Regional Hospital as a student coordinator and honorary lecturer for UKZN medical students completing their rotation in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Dr Motsema finds it a huge honour to be part of nurturing and imparting knowledge to the future healthcare workers of South Africa.
Obstetrics and gynaecology have become a huge part of Dr Motsema’s world. Patient care and wellness are amongst his top priorities. He believes a healthy mother will most likely ensure a healthy baby- before, during, and years after pregnancy. Dr Motsema has had the privilege of giving back to the community and patients, whom he believes play a key role in helping healthcare practitioners learn about the art of medicine.
Dr Motsema’s special areas of interests include General Obstetrics, General Gynaecology, Contraception and Family Planning, and the primary prevention of Gynaecological Cancers.
